Swansea Shooting a Dispute Over Money, DA's Office Says

Tiverton resident Mitchell Stevenson and Swansea resident Christian Wilson are both dead after an apparent murder-suicide Sunday night.

According to the office of Bristol County District Attorney Sam Sutter, the apparent murder-suicide in Swansea Sunday night was the result of a dispute between acquaintances over money.

The two parties, who were both shot dead on Stephen French Road, were identified as 37-year-old Tiverton resident Mitchell Stevenson and 43-year-old Swansea resident Christian Wilson, who was found in his home at 375 French Road after apparently shooting Stevenson in a motor vehicle outside.

"The investigation has revealed that the individuals were known to each other," reads a statement from Sutter's office.  "A dispute arose between the parties over money.  It is believed that Mr. Stevenson drove to Mr. Wilsons home on Stephen French Road to collect money owed. It is believed that an argument ensued between the parties at which point Mr. Wilson brandished a firearm and fired multiple shots at close range, striking Mr. Stevenson, who was seated in his motor vehicle.  Mr. Wilson then retreated into his home and almost immediately, a single gunshot was heard.  Mr. Wilson was found by police in his home and observed with an apparent self-inflicted gunshot wound.  According to police, Mr. Wilson did have license to possess a firearm."
