Grist Mill in Seekonk Reaches Tentative Reopening Date

Owner Esmay says it looks good, but he doesn't want to jinx it.

The Grist Mill Tavern was set ablaze one year ago when a fruit truck caught fire after hitting the building, but owner Greg Esmay said they’re finishing rebuilding the building and are looking to reopen in October.

“It’s our one-year anniversary but at least we’ve got a building again, so it’s getting there,” he said. “I ain’t saying anything more because it just seems to take forever.”

Esmay said he’s been working with tradesmen and is starting the HVAC, plumbing and electric work in the building.

He said, though he may want to have a quiet reopening, it’s probably just not in the cards.

“I don’t think we’re going to have a choice,” he said with a laugh. “I think everybody’s going to know about it. I’ve already had many booze outlets ask if they can sponsor the event.”

Esmay said the October date is extremely tentative and he doesn’t want to get anyone’s hopes up, but that’s what he feels it is looking like right now. He said he’s going to reopen the place and let the customers decide if it’s just as good as the original.

“We’ll take a couple days to run through everything and then we just go and hope everything goes well.”
